Implants offer the only complete tooth replacement option

Dental implants rebuild a lost tooth from the roots up. Implants are small screw-like posts made of titanium that fill the space in your jaw once occupied by your roots. The metal is very durable, but that's not the only reason it's well-suited for dental implants. Titanium fuses to bones and is often used in medical procedures, such as hip replacement surgery. When a titanium implant is placed in your jaw, it gradually bonds to the bone. It takes up to six months and ensures that the implant is firmly rooted in the bone. After the implant is fully bonded, a lifelike artificial crown is attached to it.

Depending on the degree of tooth loss you've experienced, you may also be considering bridges and dentures. These restoration options, while certainly effective, have one important drawback: they aren't anchored in your jawbone like implants. If they don't fit well, they can slip when you eat, causing gum irritation. Dental implants offer the only way to replace your entire tooth. Since the implants actually become a permanent part of your jawbone, they'll probably last your entire life.

Dental implants are ideal no matter how many teeth you've lost

One of the most important benefits of dental implants is their versatility. They're an excellent choice if you've lost a single tooth, but they're just as effective at replacing multiple teeth. Implant-supported bridges and dentures are more comfortable and offer improved biting power. Depending on the number of teeth you need to replace, you may need two to eight implants to support a bridge or denture.

Implants are comfortable

Because implants are firmly attached to your jawbone, they never irritate your gums when you eat. Many Pomona, Stony Point, and Rockland County, NY, residents find them an extremely comfortable alternative to bridges and dentures.
