Things You Can Do In Our Office to Manage Dental AnxietyDental anxiety is a major reason that people don't keep up with their regular dental cleanings. So, if the thought of a dental exam makes you nervous, you should know that you are not alone. Fortunately, there are several things that you can do in our office to manage your anxiety for a successful appointment.

Talk to Us About Your Fears

The best thing you can do if you have dental anxiety is to let us know. We want you to have a comfortable experience. Sometimes this means simply explaining processes more in depth, and in other cases, sedation dentistry may be warranted. We are on your side and want to help you beat your anxiety.

Listen to Music
In the case of dental anxiety, distraction is a great coping method. A good way to take your mind off what's going on around you is to wear headphones. This will drown out the sounds of our instruments and can leave you feeling relaxed.

Bring a Support Person
Having a trusted friend or family member with you can make you feel more comfortable about a trip to our office. Ask someone to accompany you, even if you simply need a routine cleaning.

Focus on Your Breathing
There are many helpful relaxation techniques that can be useful during your appointment, such as focusing on your breath. Inhale and exhale slowly for the same number of counts. This is especially helpful before your appointment while you are in our waiting room or during breaks throughout your exam. This also to combat physical symptoms of anxiety like muscle tension.

We understand how real dental anxiety is, but it is important that you don't allow your fears to keep you from visiting our office. Call us today to set up your next appointment and let us put your mind at ease.
